Setting Your Price Range

How to set a price range for your business in SEO Max, and how it appears in Google search results.

Overview

The price range setting lets you indicate the general price level of your business. This information can appear directly in Google search results, giving potential customers an immediate sense of what to expect before they even visit your site.

How to Set Your Price Range

  1. Click SEO Max in your admin menu
  2. Find the price range setting (within your SEO or business information settings)
  3. Choose the option that best reflects your pricing
  4. Save your changes

Understanding the Price Range Options

Dollar Sign Notation

The most common format uses dollar signs to indicate price level:

Symbol Meaning
$ Budget-friendly, inexpensive
$$ Moderately priced
$$$ Higher-end, somewhat expensive
$$$$ Premium, luxury pricing

These symbols are widely recognised and appear on platforms like Google Maps and Google Search.

Specific Price Range

You can also enter an actual price range if that better represents your business, for example "10 - 30" or "100 - 500". This is useful when your pricing is consistent and you want to give customers a concrete idea of what to expect.

Choosing the Right Option for Your Business

Restaurants and Food

  • $ — Under $10 per person (fast food, casual cafes)
  • $$ — $11–$30 per person (casual dining, chain restaurants)
  • $$$ — $31–$60 per person (upscale casual, fine dining)
  • $$$$ — Over $60 per person (premium dining experiences)

Retail Shops

  • $ — Budget or thrift (average purchase under $25)
  • $$ — Standard retail ($25–$75 average purchase)
  • $$$ — Upscale or boutique ($75–$200 average purchase)
  • $$$$ — Luxury retail (over $200 average purchase)

  • $ — Basic services (under $50)
  • $$ — Standard services ($50–$150)
  • $$$ — Premium services ($150–$500)
  • $$$$ — Specialist or high-end services (over $500)

  • $ — Budget accommodation (under $75 per night)
  • $$ — Standard accommodation ($75–$175 per night)
  • $$$ — Upscale accommodation ($175–$350 per night)
  • $$$$ — Luxury accommodation (over $350 per night)

Professional and B2B Services

  • $ — Entry-level or small-scale projects
  • $$ — Standard professional services
  • $$$ — Specialised expertise or larger engagements
  • $$$$ — Enterprise-level or top-tier services

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Be accurate — Choose the option that honestly reflects what customers will pay. Setting an inaccurate price level can lead to disappointment and poor reviews.
  • Consider your competitors — Think about how your pricing compares to similar businesses in your area or industry.
  • Regional context — Dollar signs are used regardless of the local currency, as this is a universal convention for price level.
  • Google's interpretation — Search engines may display this information differently depending on the context, and may combine it with other signals.

Getting your price range right helps attract the customers most likely to be a good fit for your business, and sets the right expectations from the very first search result.
