Twilio

Send SMS notifications for orders and form submissions directly to your customers and team.

Overview

The Twilio plugin enables SMS notifications for your CMS Max site. When an order is placed or a form is submitted, text messages can be sent to customers and team members automatically.

Account Modes

Twilio offers two ways to connect:

Mode Best For
Free Tier Sites sending up to 100 messages per month
Custom Twilio Account Sites with higher volume or that need full control over their messaging

Free Tier

The free tier uses a shared CMS Max Twilio account. No external setup is required — just install the plugin and SMS notifications are enabled automatically. This tier supports up to 100 messages per month.

Custom Twilio Account

If your site exceeds the free tier limit or you want full control over your messaging, connect your own Twilio account. You manage your phone numbers, messaging compliance, and billing directly through Twilio.

Setting Up Twilio

  1. Go to Settings > Plugins in your admin panel
  2. Find Twilio and open the settings page
  3. Choose your Account Type:
    • Free Tier Account (up to 100 messages/month) -- No additional setup needed
    • Use your own account -- Enter the following from your Twilio console:
      • Account SID
      • Auth Token
      • Phone Number -- The Twilio phone number to send messages from
  4. Click Save and Install

US Messaging Compliance

If you are sending SMS or MMS messages to US phone numbers using a US local number, A2P 10DLC registration is required by carriers. This applies to custom Twilio accounts. Visit the Twilio A2P 10DLC registration guide for details.

Troubleshooting

SMS messages are not being delivered:

  • Check that the Twilio plugin is installed and active in Settings > Plugins
  • If using a custom account, verify your Account SID and Auth Token are correct
  • Confirm the phone number is a valid Twilio number with SMS capabilities
  • If sending to US numbers, check that A2P 10DLC registration is complete

Free tier messages are not sending:

  • Verify you have not exceeded the 100 messages per month limit
  • Switch to a custom Twilio account if you need higher volume
