Legal Pages

How to generate missing legal pages and review legal page coverage for your site

Overview

CMS Max can generate the built-in Accessibility Statement, Privacy Policy, and Terms & Conditions pages for you when they are missing. The generator is designed for first-time setup and only creates pages that do not already exist.

If one or more of these pages already exists, CMS Max leaves the existing page in place and only generates the missing ones.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Legal Pages.
  2. Review the list of legal pages that still need generating.
  3. Fill in the Effective Date, Company Name, Email Address, Phone Number, and Mailing Address fields.
  4. Click Generate Missing Legal Pages.

CMS Max uses those values to replace the placeholder text in the default legal page templates before creating the missing pages.

The generator asks for five values:

Field Description
Effective Date Used for the policy date shown near the top of each generated legal page
Company Name Used anywhere the default legal page text references your business name
Email Address Used in the contact section of the generated legal pages
Phone Number Used in the contact section of the generated legal pages
Mailing Address Used in the contact section of the generated legal pages

These values are prefilled from your existing site settings when available, so you usually only need to confirm them before generating the pages.

The Effective Date field is prefilled with the current month and year, and you can change it before you generate the pages.

What Happens When Pages Already Exist

  • Existing legal pages are not overwritten by the generator.
  • Only missing pages are created.
  • If all three legal pages already exist, the page will let you know that nothing needs generating.

Generated legal pages are treated as system-required pages. This means they are protected from normal deletion so your site does not accidentally lose required legal content.

Some plugins may update the built-in legal page templates for store-specific language. When that happens, CMS Max may archive and recreate the relevant legal page for you automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The generator only creates legal pages that are missing.

Why is the generator asking for business details?

The default legal page templates include placeholder text for your business contact details. CMS Max replaces that placeholder text before creating the missing pages.
