How to upload product images, choose display modes, and select the right image sizes for your store

Overview

Product photos are one of the most important elements of your online store. CMS Max gives you control over how images are displayed and provides recommended sizes to ensure your photos look great on every device.

Choosing a Photo Display Mode

When you configure how a product image appears, you can choose between two display modes: Cover and Contain. The right choice depends on your photos and how you want them to look in their display frame.

Cover

Cover mode fills the entire image frame with your photo. If the image is wider or taller than the frame allows, the edges are cropped so the frame is always completely filled. This produces a clean, uniform look across your product listing — particularly effective when all your product photos have a consistent composition.

Use Cover when you want a uniform grid where every product image fills its space completely and a small amount of cropping is acceptable.

Contain

Contain mode keeps the entire image visible at all times. If the photo doesn't fill the full frame, white space is added around the image to fill the remaining area. Nothing is ever cropped.

Use Contain when your product photos must be shown in full — for example, if the edges of the image contain important details that cannot be cut off.

Uploading images at the recommended dimensions ensures the best quality and performance across your store. All sizes are provided at a width of 1200px to support high-resolution (retina) displays.

Tip: Choose one aspect ratio and use it consistently across your catalog for the most polished storefront appearance.

Uploading Product Photos

  1. Navigate to eCommerce > Products and open the product you want to edit (or create a new one).
  2. Click the Photos tab.
  3. Upload your image files. You can upload multiple photos per product.
  4. Drag the images to reorder them — the first image is shown as the main product photo.
  5. Select your preferred Display Mode (Cover or Contain).
  6. Click Save.
